Develiin Aral (Devel Island) nature reserve is located directly south of Achit Lake and adjacent to Uvs province. This unique riparian environment is home to a host of increasingly rare animal species in Mongolia including the ring-necked pheasant, wild boar and beaver. It is a main distribution area of sea buckthorn. In addition, the reserve provides important habitat for many migratory birds.
The Develiin Aral Natural Reserve (103 km²) is established around Develiin Island at the confluence of the rivers Lsan Khooloi and Khovd. Since 2000 it has provided protection for various birds and animals including pheasants, boars, and beavers.
